Expanding the Role of Pharmacy Personnel in Adolescent RH Education and Services in the Philippines (Project RxGen)

Objective
To expand the role of the private sector in delivery of RH interventions to sexually active adolescent s and young adults (13-23 years). In particular:
- Strengthen the capacity of pharmacy personnel to deliver counseling, referral information and services to adolescents seeking EC and other FP services;
- Strengthen the capacity of NGO outreach workers to deliver pregnancy prevention education, EC referral information and other prevention services to adolescent target groups.
Outputs
- Trained 59 pharmacists and 116 pharmacy assistants. Mystery shopping activity and updates meetings with previously trained personnel revealed an improved quality of care provided by the pharmacy personnel to customers.
- Provided orientation on EC to a total of 203 public health physicians, nurses and midwives in 6 ASEP sites (Cebu, Angeles, Iloilo , Zamboanga, Davao , General Santos). They are the service and/or referral system in urban sites.
- Established a Tele-counseling referral system for clients by training 65 staff and volunteer counselors in three Tele-counseling projects in 2 urban sites.
- Developed training manual and a handout for adolescent participants on Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health . Manual was pretested in two sites among adolescents and trainers.
- Developed the following IEC materials:
- Poster
- Brochure
- "Hop the Isle" game board
